DYCI Junior and Senior High Teachers undergo the NCAF Leadership Journey

On May 15 to 16, 2019, ninety-three (93) junior and senior high-school teachers from the Dr. Yanga’s Colleges, Inc. (DYCI), underwent the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Leadership Journey (NCALJ), held at the Angels Hills Retreat and Formation Center in Tagaytay City. The one and a half Journey, based on Ninoy and Cory’s own spiritual-leadership style, was part of DYCI’s formation program for their teachers.

The participants spent two days resting, reflecting, and learning different modules on leadership. Day one focused on looking back at the key moments in the teachers’ lives. Through the Lifebook Activity, the participants were able to go back to their journeys as teachers and identify vital moments where they felt loved, inspired, and motivated to pursue their careers as formators. The teachers were also broken into their groups and each one was able to share his or her life stories with one another.

Mr. Jampao Reyes, the main facilitator for the Journey, discussed the Five Love Languages with the participants. Here, the teachers were able to identify their own love languages and the love languages of their co-teachers, students, and own families and friends. They were also able to listen to the talks of Senior High School Principal, Mrs. Bitchik Dimalanta, and Metrobank Outstanding Educator Awardee, Mr. Onofre Pagsanghan. Mrs. Dimalanta talked about one’s vocation as a teacher, using Ninoy, Ateneo’s St. Ignatius, and DYCI’s own “Tatay” as examples of people with virtue and dedicated service to the people around them. Sir Pagsi talked about one’s calling as a teacher. He said that every teacher must “love one’s calling with passion, it is the meaning of their lives.”

The Journey ended with the “Panata Tree” activity, where each teacher wrote down his or her commitment to the school and placed this on their school tree, as a reminder of their dedication to the school.
