House Parents from the National Training School for Boys Experience NCAF’s Leadership Journey

Last September 17-18 and September 20-21, the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundation conducted a journey run for House Parents of the National Training School for Boys (NTSB). Each session consisted of 35 participants, composed of both staff and full time house parents of Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL). The run was held at the Splash Mountain resort in Los Baños, Laguna and served as both seminar and recreational activity for the participants.

Majority of the program was dedicated to an in-depth insight of the problems that staff and house parents encounter in the day-to-day execution of their work. Games were interjected into the program to energize the participants. The first day was dedicated to recollection; first of the ‘self’ through the photo language exercise, then of particular work-related situational conflicts. The latter was achieved through a skit activity in which the current scenario is compared with the ideal scenario.

The second day was for modules on integrity and concrete action plans. The extensive discussion on integrity reminded the participants of their role in the success of a service-oriented organization, such as NSTB. Using topics and concepts discussed in both days of the run, a forum was held wherein certain issues were raised alongside queries of how to particularly apply specific concepts discussed in given situations. The Journey was concluded by brainstorming for action plans and a written output to solidify these plans for implementation.
