NCAF conducts Leadership Journey for OVP staff

OVP groupOn September 23 to 24, 2017, the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundation (NCAF) conducted its Leadership Journey Seminar-Retreat for the staff of the Office of the Vice President of the Philippines at the St. Paul Center for Renewal in Alfonso, Cavite.

Based on the leadership style of Ninoy and Cory, the weekend program gave the participants a chance to rest, reflect and pray. It also integrated moments for story-sharing, journaling, and connecting the dots on one’s own life.

Facilitated by former Department of Education (DepEd) Undersecretary Rizalino “Lino” Rivera and NCAF Program Director John Paulo Reyes, the Leadership Journey also explored the participants’ “why” – the reason and continuous motivation for their service.

Former Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman shared with the group her story as a social worker and servant-leader. She recalled key moments in her journey that inspired her to devote herself in serving the less fortunate members of society. When asked about her motivation for serving despite the many hardships, she said that her strength comes from the people who she knows, whether directly or indirectly, her work has been able to help and change for the better.

Ateneo professor Eduardo “Eddieboy” Calasanz also spoke to the participants about continuing to serve with a sense of mission. He invited them to remember their individual call – the call they heard which prompted them to serve in the Office of the Vice President; a call that possibly came from a loving God, who continues to lead them and guide them through this time of challenges and also meaning.
