The Philippine Province of the Society of Jesus and the Ateneo de Manila University, in partnership with the Tanging Yaman Foundation and the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundation present, Hesus na Aking Kapatid – A Prayer Concert. The prayer concert was held on January 20, 2019, at the Hyundai Hall, Arete, inside the Ateneo de Manila University.
The show began with Bukas Palad’s rendition of “Huwag Kang Mangamba”. This was followed by the opening remarks of Fr. Jerome Cruz, Vicar General of the Diocese of Caloocan. The Ateneo Boys Choir rendered two (2) songs, including “Look at The World,” and “Small Part of The World”. Bishop Pablo Virgilio “Ambo” David, Bishop of Caloocan, took the stage and gave his first reflection, “Pangingilatis,” on the experiences of the victims of Extra Judicial Killings (EJK) in his community. He accompanied his reflections with actual CCTV footage of EJK cases in Caloocan. Afterwards, Bukas Palad rendered three (3) songs, including “Hangganan,” “Your Heart Today,” and “We Will Rise”.
Bishop Ambo David, gave his second reflection, “Pagninilay,” an interpretation of the Philippine’s present state of affairs from the lenses of our Catholic Faith. Following after this was Fr. Arnel Aquino SJ and Himig Heswita. They also rendered three (3) songs including, “Aba Ginoong Maria,” “I Am Ever With You,” and a medley of songs.
Bishop David gave his last reflection, “Pagtugon,” challenging the audience to respond in concrete ways against the culture of violence dehumanizing the people. He also cited the Jesuit Mission Station, headed by Fr. Willy Samson SJ, as a response of the Jesuits to the needs of the community for pastoral care and formation. Mr. Noel Cabangon then took the stage, together with the Bukas Palad Music Ministry to render their version of “Sanlibong Buhay.” As Bukas Palad exits the stage, Mr. Cabangon proceeded to serenade the audience with two (2) songs, namely “Kanlunga” and “Mabuting Pilipino.”
The Prayer Concert concluded with the closing remarks of Fr. Jett Villarin SJ, President of Ateneo de Manila University and the singing of “Pananagutan,” led by Fr. Manoling Francisco SJ, together with all the artists.
