Project Pearls Student Scholars undergo the NCA Leadership Journey

On May 15 to 16, 2018, forty (40) student scholars of Project Pearls, an organization that caters to the poor and marginalized families in Tondo and Bulacan, underwent the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Leadership Journey (NCALJ) for Students at Microtel Inn and Suites at Luisita, Tarlac City. The two-day retreat-seminar allowed the students to reflect on their lives and their sources of love and care, and learn modules on leadership based on Ninoy and Cory’s own brand of spiritual-leadership. Coming from two different communities, both Tondo and Bulacan, the scholars were given plenty of opportunities to get to know one another and share their personal stories with each other.

The participants were also able to listen to three speakers: missionary and youth formator, Harold Hernandez, and Project Pearls administrators Monica Aclan and Karen Beblanas. Mr. Hernandez spoke to them about hope and that in spite of hardships and difficulties, there is comfort in knowing that they are loved and there are so many who are willing to help them get through their challenges. Ms. Aclan and Ms. Beblanas shared with them their volunteer stories and how service has redefined their definition of success. The two reminded the participants that success is not measured by one’s material possessions or worldly achievements, but rather by the relationships you keep and the ability to live out one’s purpose and mission.
