Return of the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Leadership Journey for Educators

Last November 16-17 at the St. Paul Center for Renewal in Alfonso, Cavite, 54 educators from the Navotas National High School, Bagumbayan Elementary School and TechVoc Skills Inc. experienced the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Leadership Journey. Through modules that center on a renewal of self and vocation, the participants were invited to imbibe the Ninoy and Cory’s leadership styles of prayer, discernment and self-sacrifice in their day-to-day routines.

Opening Remarks were given by Principal Dr. Maria Cristina Robles of NNHS and Mr. Ernesto Bengzon of TSI. Program Director and lead facilitator Mr. Jampao Reyes focused on looking back at the past, introspection, and intertwined these with hope for the future as he lead the participants to dive into the different segments of the program.

First keynote speaker Teacher Sabrina Ongkiko of the Culiat National High school delved into the importance of compassion as an educator in two aspects. First she shared about her experiences and the utmost importance compassion to fellow educators in the workplace. The second aspect is compassion to students- here she gave a few personal stories that truly expounded on the imperative role of compassion, first in person-to-person formation, then in nation-building.

Second keynote speaker Mr. Noel Miranda then gave a talk on recognition of the different seasons in the long run of an educator’s vocation. His talk allowed for ardent realizations of different highs and lows in the numerous individual vocation stories the participants shared. He then expounded on the importance of mastery of content. Various participants shared that they were moved to action by this call to mastery of content and excellence in educating.

The two-day program ended on a high note with a commitment activity wherein all participants formally renewed the hearts and souls of their vocation through promises written and made to be kept. With much hope in their hearts, they ended the Leadership Journey ready to face more challenges.
