Volunteers from the Diocese of Novaliches undergo 2-day Ninoy and Cory Aquino Leadership Journey for Carers

Twenty-seven (27) volunteers from the Abot Kamay Alang-alang sa Pagbabago (AKAP), a community-based drug rehabilitation program under the  Diocese of Novaliches, underwent the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Leadership Journey on March 16 to 17, 2018 at the Betania Retreat House in Cubao, Quezon City. The Journey is the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundation’s core formation program.

The Ninoy and Cory Aquino Leadership Journey, highlights the leadership styles of Ninoy and Cory that is rooted in prayer, discernment, action and sacrifice. The AKAP volunteers were provided opportunities to remember and share their own mission-stories with one another, rekindling their resolve to serve those in need.

The partnership between the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundation (NCAF) and the Diocese of Novaliches materialized when the two organizations were introduced through the “Angat Buhay” anti-poverty program of the Office of the Vice President.

Vice President Leni Robredo surprised the participants and long-time friend and Vicar General of the Diocese of Novaliches and Director of the AKAP Program, Fr. Tony Labiao, Jr., on the second day. She listened and shared her own experiences from her years as a human rights lawyer, fighting for the rights of underprivileged Filipinos.

The participants expressed their gratitude to the Diocese of Novaliches and the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundation for their NCAF Leadership Journey experience and shared their hope that more volunteers, social workers, and servant-leaders undergo this program.
